Negotiation & Conflict Management Skills - VILT

Multi-day Course:
Location Title: Live, Online, Virtual Instructor Led Training via Zoom
Cancellation Period: 5 Business Days

This two 1/2-day instructor-led workshop is delivered live and online. Participants will improve their skills in communication and negotiation on construction projects. Participants will learn skills to enhance their ability to de-escalate conflict, listen effectively, build mutual respect with others in a construction context, and negotiate effectively.

Course Content:

  • Understand the basic elements of communication and demonstrate effective communication skills with clients/constructors
  • Understand motivation theory and apply motivational techniques to win trust and engage clients/individuals/teams you work with
  • Identify different personality styles and how to communicate appropriately and negotiate effectively with each one
  • Understand the basics of negotiating, de-escalating conflict and setting the ground work for effective negotiation
  • Ask effective questions and listen to others in order to get to the issues behind various negotiation intentions
  • Getting to a “yes” and closing a negotiation well
  • Building long term relationships of trust amongst all construction stakeholders.

Full attendance during the entire period each day is required in order to receive a course completion certificate.  Please register each person that will be in attendance.

Please note the following:  

  1. You will receive an email with easy to follow instructions on how to join the virtual classroom 48 hours prior to the course date.
  2.  Your course materials and handouts will be attached in a PDF format.   It is recommended that you print the attachments prior to class as they will be helpful for notes and the various exercises to be completed in class. Print the slides attachment double sided.
  3. All students are encouraged to use the chat function to ask questions, as well as speaker and microphone during open session discussions. 

You’ll need to make sure you have the following:

  • Computer, laptop or iPad with webcam (webcams are mandatory): This course will involve on-screen interaction with your instructor and classmates, reading/viewing on-screen content like slides or videos, and interacting via typing with questions or responses. For this reason, you must have a webcam and have a keyboard.
  • A quiet space with minimal distractions: Please plan to be fully engaged in the class, and clear your work schedule just as you would for attendance in an in-class program.
