Please note:  This is a 6-hour course that takes place over 2 days. Part 1 is Oct 29, and Part 2 is Oct 30. Both sessions run from 9-12pm. There is no opportunity to re-schedule or request for a partial refund if a student cannot attend both sessions.

How To Achieve True Success:  The Last Planner® System is a lean production planning system designed to produce predictable workflow and continuous improvement in construction. The system leads to better projects delivered in less time at a lower cost – so why is implementation so hard?

This course is a deep dive into the Last Planner System with a focus on roadblocks you might encounter and how to make it successful on your project site. This course will provide you with with strategies to deal with resistance and ideas to change team behaviors not conducive to a lean culture.

  • Lean principles, waste and variation
  • Detailed Last Planner® System Analysis
  • Common implementation challenges
  • Speed, quality and budget – how to get all three
  • The culture of lean and team behaviours
  • Assertively dealing with difficult personalities

Who Should Attend?

All members of a construction project team, including: Project Coordinators, Project Managers, Site Supervisors, Management, Owners and Support roles.

Attendance in both sessions is mandatory for course completion.

This course is offered in partnership with the Vancouver Regional Construction Association (VRCA) and the Vancouver Island Construction Association (VICA).

CM-Lean credit: AGC of America recognizes this course for continuing education hours towards the renewal of AGC’s Certificate of Management-Lean Construction (CM-Lean). Each hour of educational content is equal to 1 hour of CE credit. Attendees may earn up to 6 hours of CE Credit by attending this course.

Course Instructor Information

James Johnston, P. Eng.

James is an Industrial Engineer, a member of the Lean Construction Institute and an Accredited Trainer with the Associated General Contractors of America. As a construction, operations and quality specialist with over 25 years of experience, James specialises in focusing on business process analysis & improvement, Lean thinking & implementation, and strategic planning and business development. He has worked extensively as a Management Consultant and Trainer, leading organizations through lean transformations, quality system implementation and process optimization projects. James has also coached and facilitated the implementation of Lean Construction tools and methodologies on many projects, ranging in value up to $250 million, and has trained hundreds of construction professionals throughout North America. He continues to develop programs that improve project outcomes industry wide.
